Acrylic Painting with a Single Colour

Monochromatic masterpiece.
When we think about painting we often think about working with a myriad of colours and a palette full of mixes. Did you know that it’s perfectly possible and often desirable to paint with just one colour!? Well I’m pleased to tell you that it is and you certainly can. In fact working with just one colour helps you learn how much just one colour can actually achieve.

Think about a black and white or sepia photograph for a moment. That’s just one colour but it’s just displaying the subject at different levels of luminosity not different colours and as you know from photography the details can still be amazing. When we learn to paint with one colour we learn more about light and shade and how to work with it and harnessing that knowledge is super important to your art journey.
