Hello. I took the shot of the sunglasses with the magenta background and blue lenses. I’m curious if added context might change the critique. These are 80s style aviator sunglasses and so I was trying to use a retro 80s color palette. So the garishness was intentional to match the style. Would your opinion change based on the inspiration? Something like this… https://storage.googleapis.com/pod_public/1300/152327.jpg

    1. Hi, thank you for the extra information. The shot was technically very good but unfortunately for us here at VE our first impression was the over saturation. Although inspiration from a palette can work on a collection of images for a brochure or accompanied story but on it’s own it is impossible for a viewer to anticipate white the inspiration or narrative might be on a single image. As I say, technically a very well executed shot.

  2. Thank you Karl for the lovely comments regarding my product photograph, I was very chuffed to see it placed in folder 2 ,also very encouraging for me to continue to shoot more, knowing occassionally my shots can be amongst a higher caliber of work .
The shot was a first for me to try out rim lighting, inspired by watching your ‘ video camera’ tutorial.. I found it fun to use a torch to light the logo area of the product.
I would just like to add…If anybody is stuck for inspiration as to what to shoot, or maybe to try out a new style of lighting or even to get out of their comfort zone, just go and flip through the many varieties of classes on the Visual Education website, bookmark like crazy and keep referring to them, its great fun!
Keep up the great work VE team and the VE members.

Hi Karl, thanks for the critique. It is a photograph I tookof a client of mines jewellery from his shop (not CGI). The direction is to include the logo like that. It is shooting jewellery that got me into photography and joining your platform, this page shows the advert. Also a bit of my journey in this subject from some not so good shots or some with trouble along the way: https://www.damianlamartine.com/graphic-design/project-one-ephnc-ycb4n

    thanks again

    1. A good entry Damian and some good work on your site, I particularly like the hard light Helly Hanson woman with dark hair photograph and the shoes are well executed too.

  4. Withers Derby Gin – a locally produced craft gin honouring the city of Derby, with botanicals including lavender and rose. The duck echoes the one on the label, which references the preferred term of endearment in the area!
