The soup stirring sequence is a joy. Steam, heat, cramped conditions. And then the shots of working with the small pancakes and the piping: Alex is changing aperture and speed setting and flash output while maintaining a completely calm outward demeanour. What’s equally interesting is the final white balance/exposure/development settings which make the working environment look bright and attractive, a far cry from the darker walls and the flat light produced by the overhead working lights. Kit choice is so interesting too: speed lights and umbrellas that can be moved quickly and easily and won’t get in the way of the people at work.
