Hi Karl,
What should I be looking for when purchasing a Tripod? I need one that will support my macro rail, a nikon d850 and 105mm lens. I see the load capacity varries a lot and some super expensive tripods have low capacity while cheaper ones claim to support more? My budget for the entire set up (tripod and head) is about $1200 maximum.
Any advice is much appreciated and thank you for all your courses!! I make a living photographing cannabis because of what I’ve learned watching your videos.
Hi Spencer, with that budget you will have no problem. Look at Manfrotto and Gitzo for the best tripods in my opinion. I use the 410 geared head and a Manfrotto 058B on location but it’s heavy. Some of the new carbon fibre ones are much lighter but still sturdy, but personally I like a heavy tripod.
Hi Karl,
Having gotten sick of using clamps and bits of wood to hold the camera, I have been looking to get my first tripod and it will be solely for indoor/studio use. Do you have any recommendations? Something like the Super Salon is a bit too large for me and my space so I’m just looking for a normal 3 legged job.
Hi Squiggle, I like something heavy like the Manfrotto 058B but I’m not sure that’s current anymore but you could ask them for their nearest equivalent. If it’s for the studio you’ll probably enjoy a geared head like their ‘Junior 410’. Cheers Karl.
After a couple weeks grabbing B-roll around the outdoors of Montana, I’m officially DONE with the snap leg extensions! What a pain!
I remember viewing this video months ago, but couldn’t remember the model number and trying to find the one button tripod on Manfrotto’s web site, what a challenge!
If you are still doing the discount codes with Manfrotto, I’d appreciate a code when I purchase the 058B from their web site in the next few days!
Hi Steve, please contact Emma through our website email.
Hello Karl, I’m considering getting a tripod like the one behind you on which the Hasselblad is mounted but I’m not sure what it is.
Hi I use the Manfrotto Super Salon in the studio and the 058B on location.
First of all, thank you for the endless tips and tutorials. I have been a member for over a year and I have found all of your teachings to be helpful.
Do you have a suggestion for a tripod in the $200-$300 range? The Manfrotto O58b would be my choice but it is out of my current budget. I would be using the tripod for street, landscape, and portrait.
Also, I am ready to “move up” from using flash guns with studio work.. I have seen so many different choices.. I wonder what was your next step when you wanted better light than flash guns?
Thank you Jesse for your support. The Manfrotto 055 is good but I don’t know how much it is https://www.manfrotto.co.uk/collections/supports/055-series. On a budget you could look at Godox or Elichrom but the ultimate choice would be the Broncolor Siros range.
What Head do you use on your 058B
Thanks
Steve P
