Here’s a look at a painting that’s super easy to do - even if you’ve never painted before.
Artist Tim Gaudion will be demonstrating how you can paint your own Octopus live and of course you can ask any questions along the way from the comfort of your own home.
While this demonstration will show how to paint with Oils, you can also paint your octopus with any other medium, be it acrylics, gouache or watercolour - and of course you can change up the colours too - who doesn't want a bright pink octopus on their walls!

In this live show, Tim will teach you how to paint this octopus.
What You'll Need
(or Just Watch First!)No need to rush out and buy anything before the show - you're welcome to simply watch live, see exactly what's used and how, then pick up the materials afterward and paint along in your own time. If you'd like to follow along live, here's exactly what Tim will be using:
- 1 brush - a size 8 filbert (any brush will do)
- Oil paint in Phthalo Blue, Cadmium Red and Titanium White
- A primed board, 30cm x 30cm (canvas works too)
Painting in acrylics, gouache or watercolour instead? Same approach - just swap in your usual paints.

Download the reference pencil sketch and watch the class to see how to transfer this onto your canvas or board to start painting. It's there to save you time on the drawing stage, so you can focus on the fun part - the painting.

Tim Gaudion
Tim Gaudion is a Guernsey-based artist and illustrator whose paintings capture the island's changing light, weather and coastline, working with bold colour and a strong sense of mood and place. Alongside his studio work, Tim has painted several large-scale murals - including a couple of big octopus pieces, like the ones you'll see in the video below - and loves showing beginners that painting doesn't need to be intimidating. Join him live and you'll finish the session with a piece of your own to hang on the wall.

Share your octopus painting and we'll feature it in our gallery.

Awesome. Also watched the intro to acrylic class. I don’t know anything about painting, so probably will get acrylic as a beginner, but definitely will give a try.
Will there be a submission gallery for this class later?
Hi, acrylics will be great for doing this project. Also, we have just added a form to the page you can use to submit your painting, and we will add it to the gallery on this page. Look forward to seeing the results 🙂
Oh well, painted a first round with mistakes. I bought the craft acrylic and didn’t shake the bottle before use–didn’t read the label carefully. The red background is disastrous. Tried a second coat and it covered up a tiny bit. I still uploaded an image showing the process for fun. Will get some tubes and maybe do a second round or some other paintings. 🙂
