Wet on Dry Technique
Wet on Dry Technique.
I this class Tim demonstrates the Wet-on-Dry technique in watercolour and shows how to apply wet paint onto a dry surface, in this watercolour of Mont Saint-Michel. Working either on dry paper or a previously dried layer of paint. This technique offers control over the edges and details of their brushstrokes compared to the Wet-on-Wet method.
This Wet-on-Dry technique is ideal for adding fine details, creating distinct shapes, or layering new colours over an existing dried wash without them bleeding into one another. You can also use Wet-on-Dry for building up intensity and contrast, especially in areas where you want the colours to remain more vibrant or isolated.
This technique can also be combine with Wet-on-Wet to achieve a balance of soft, blended areas and sharp, focused details.
