Working to a Brief: Assignment 7 LAUNCH

Live on: Thursday 11th November 2021 – 15:00 GMT / 10:00 EST

In this live-show replay, Karl introduces our seventh ‘Working to a Brief’ assignment.

This brief calls for a simple milk-splash image. For more details, and to submit your image, head over to the Milk-Splash Photography Brief blog post.

In the show, Karl explains the finer details of the assignment, describing the required composition, mood, and lighting. He also refers to the art director-style sketch and various existing images intended to serve as inspiration.

As he answers members’ questions, Karl offers advice on how to secure a good pour and explains why using speedlights through a scrim is likely to be your best option.

He also covers possible receptacles, potential milk substitutes, and angle of view. Most importantly, he emphasises the importance of timing for this shot, since you only get one splash per pour.

Good luck!

Be sure to submit your image by 13:00 GMT / 08:00 EST on Wednesday 2nd February 2022. These submissions will be reviewed by Karl in a follow-up show on 9th February.
