Furniture Photography: Elm and Resin Table
Master the Art of Furniture Photography
In this class, you’ll delve into the expert techniques of top product photographer Karl as he unveils his methods for illuminating and capturing the exquisite craftsmanship of this finely detailed table encased in resin.
Crucial to the success of the image is mastering a lighting strategy that effectively showcases the intricate grain and texture of the elm wood.
Additionally, the image must accommodate the large resin fissure that is a design feature running through the centre of the table, while providing even but dynamic lighting throughout.
With just a few carefully positioned lights and a step by step approach, you’ll gain invaluable insights into furniture product photography, covering essential aspects such as tethered shooting, selecting lenses, and determining optimal distances and heights to achieve stunning results.

Splendid! Consisten with the previous furniture shot so it will look great on the client’s website. I was wondering if the surface was finished (polished etc.) would that have been more or less helpful for the shoot.
Hi, yes the surface was polished but the lighting was set that it would not cause ‘angles of reflection’ problems. Also keep in mind that a polariser could be useful in such situations, they are ideal for removing reflections and revealing the texture of things like wood grain below a glossy surface. To see this in action you can view some of the Mercedes GT car shoots, particularly the one with the car at a 3/4 angle from the front.
Thank you Karl!
Wonderful, thank you so much for this class
