About these classes
During this series of automotive photography classes, Karl teaches you everything you need to know about shooting cars as well as motorcycles.
When it comes to photographing cars and bikes the reflective surfaces, mixed textures and complex lines and shapes make these challenging subjects to photograph. Sharing his years of knowledge, Karl covers basics such as what angles to shoot, what lenses to use, and what equipment you’ll need, as well as more advanced concepts and techniques.
From photographing classic cars in a warehouse with basic equipment and studio gear to catalogue-style car shots and high-end advertising images using complex lighting setups, Karl reveals how to capture professional car photography with varying amounts of equipment and space.
As part of this course, Karl also photographs two different motorcycles, explaining how to apply the same techniques of car photography to get the best results.
These classes not only cover how to overcome common challenges such as minimising reflections in metallic surfaces, create gradient lighting, and use precise lighting to highlight important details, they also demonstrate how to combine different light sources and, for those with less equipment, make clever use of the lighting you do have.
Additionally, there are detailed post-production classes that walk you through the process of retouching car and bike photographs, as Karl explains how to make simple adjustments like removing reflections and adjusting contrast and sharpness, along with techniques for achieving creative effects like adding motion blur to wheels or changing the background of an image.
