This week's challenge is...

Sunglasses hands by Karl Taylor

Hands

You use them for everything from brushing your teeth in the morning, to opening doors, making food and even taking your images — this week the focus of the challenge is hands. Be warned: hands can be particularly tricky subjects to photograph. Not only do you have to be careful about the positioning, particularly the arrangement of the fingers, you also have to carefully control your lighting.

You’ll find a number of classes on our site where hands form part of the image. In these classes Karl covers some of the common difficulties you may face and how to overcome these. If you’ve never photographed hands before, these may also provide you with some inspiration or ideas.

  • Only images uploaded using the form below will appear in the gallery.
  • Please upload no more than one image.

  • Images can be posted in our members' Facebook group, but will not appear in the gallery unless also uploaded via the form.

    I hate to bother you again, but I wondering when will the photos for the Hand Challenge will be posted. Also how do I view them? As it is my first time doing a weekly a weekly challenge and I am really looking forward to this.

      Hi Greg,
      Thank you for submitting your image! It should appear in the gallery shortly. Karl doesn’t review Weekly Challenge submissions I’m afraid. If you’d like to have one of your photographs critiqued by Karl, be sure to submit to our next Member’s Image Critique, the theme of which is food photography. The live critique is scheduled to take place on 14th July. Submissions aren’t open quite yet so keep an eye on our email newsletters and social media posts for more info! 🙂
